Augment gastrointestinal system lectures and cumulative review interactive activity with anatomical illustrations

This illustration depicts the zygomatic gland, parotid gland, mandibular gland, and sublingual gland in the dog. Veins were included in the illustration to show the spatial relationship of the mandibular gland to the external jugular vein, maxillary vein, and linguofacial vein. A German Shepherd was chosen as this breed can be more predisposed to salivary gland issues such as mucoceles.

The canine salivary gland illustration was used for a cumulative review activity for veterinary students in their first year GI course. The question presents with 3 “target” options on the dog while the answer displays the labeled version with visible anatomy.
